Fraternal Twins Born to Biracial Parents, One Twin White and The Other Black

The fraternal twin girls, Remee and Kian, were born in April 2005. Both parents of the twins are biracial. Kylie's mother is white and her father is black. Kylie's partner, Remi Horder also has a white mother and a black father. Remee, born first, weighing 5 pounds and 15 ounces, had blonde hair and fair skin. A minute later, Kian was born, 6 pounds, with black hair and darker skin.

Skin color, reportedly, is determined by up to seven genes working together. In the case of Remee and Kian and how they were conceived, two eggs were fertilized by two different sperm. A sperm containing the genetic coding for white color exclusively fertilized an egg containing genetic coding for all white color. And, a sperm containing the genetic coding for black color exclusively fertilized an egg containing genetic coding for all black color. That was how two babies of dramatically different colors were born. The likelihood of such fraternal twins occurring is a million to one chance!

As you can see, the birth of these twins didn't exactly occur yesterday. But, I'm not quite on top of all the news. I think the occurrence is fantastic. But, there's a part of me that wonders whether the world will make a circus of this young family. I don't mean to add any negative pressure to this family by talking about the wonderful twins on my blog; I find it wonderful and amazing! The parents were still teenagers when the twins were born. Starting a family can be and often times involves a tremendous amount of stress. I wish the best to this family . . .
